HFI ERW Line Tube is one type of pipe produced through a specific method known as high frequency induction welding. It is a form of electric resistance weld where the heating is done by high frequency induction. The High Frequency Welded Pipe is made by bringing the faying edges together and by squeezing the rolls to create a v shape at the point of welding. The angle of the joint is usually 2-5 degrees for steel products. The High Frequency Welded Finned Tubes have different standards and specifications such as the ASTM A269, 312, 270 and 790 which have different mechanical properties, material composition and are used in different applications.

The pies are referred to High Frequency Electric Resistance Welded Pipe when the electric current used is above 70 kHz. This method does not require forging of the material to produce the final pipes. This allows for the pipes to be welded without the need for any filler materials. Also, these pipes do not require preheating or post weld heat treatment practices. The High Frequency Induction Welded Pipe is used in the transmission of oil and gas, water and other liquids over long distances of pipe lines. One of the unique features of the high frequency welding is that the current passes only through the surface of the conductor and not throughout it. So that the effect is known as skin effect which results in high accuracy and less deformities on the pipe thickness.

Differences between ERW and HFW Steel Pipe

ERW welding process refers the heat generated by the resistance to current flow that pass through the jointed metals While HFW welding process is not the same case with the high-frequency process since it’s only a section of the steel metals is heated by the induction of electric coil. High-frequency is generated by either AC or DC current. The electric current that pass through the entire conductor is at 50/60 Hz in ERW Welding Process While in HFW Welding Process it ranges to frequency rages of 100-600 KHz
