ASTM A519 SAE 4140 Pipe is made up of chromium, manganese, carbon, silicon, molybdenum, sulfur and phosphorus in the composition. The material is strong, impact resistant and fatigue resistant. It has a density of 7.85 g/cm3 and a melting point of 1416 ° C. The AISI 4140 Tube has 655 MPa minimum tensile strength and 415 MPa minimum yield strength with 25% elongation at break. The material also has 197 Brinell hardness score. The pipes are made according to the AISI and ASTM A519 standards. The 4140 chromoly tubing  can range in size from ½ NB to 36 NB with the wall thicknesses ranging from 3mm to 12mm. Based on the wall thickness and the outer diameter of the pipes and tubes, the pressure ratings differ. There are schedules from sch40 through XXS and all schedules.

These Sae 4140 Tubing products can be cold drawn or cold rolled. There are square, round, rectangular and hydraulic pipe types. The length of the pipes and tubes vary as standard, double and cut to length sizes as well. The pipe ends are designed to fit in with various applications such as plain end, beveled end and treaded ends. The ASME SA 519 GR.4140 Boiler Tubes in particular are used with boilers. Due to the high heat resistance of these pipes, they can be used in the heat exchangers, power generation plants and in other high temperature applications. These are also used in hydraulic applications widely.
